Massive Development of Indonesia’s Rail Transport
President “Joko Widodo” is determined to continue to advance and modernize national transportation, especially mass transportation and its supporting infrastructure. Through infrastructure, connectivity can encourage economic growth in various regions of the country, one of which is the construction of railway infrastructure. The target for the construction of the railway line in the country in 2030 is 10,524 km.
Indonesia is preparing to start the first high-speed rail service in Southeast Asia namely The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB). It has become the most-awaited mega project worth US$8 billion in Indonesia with the 142.3 km rail line. The government also plans to continue the construction of high-speed trains up to Surabaya with a track length of up to 720 km.
In addition, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Capital is focusing on the city railway ecosystem (LRT and MRT). Operational target of LRT Jabodebek target is June 2023 and LRT Jakarta Phase-2 will be built in 2023. MRT Jakarta Phase-2 with a track length of 11.8 km is under construction and target completing by 2028. MRTJakarta Phase-3 (87 km line) will be started to construct by 2023.
The UK, Japan and South Korea signed an MoU to invest in public mass transportation modes (MRT Jakarta Phase 2,3,4) during the G-20 Summit in Bali.
