Surabaya (ANTARA) – State train manufacturer PT INKA dispatched 26 coaches of the total 250 ordered carriages to Chittagong Port, Bangladesh, via Jamrud II Terminal, Surabaya Tanjung Perak Port, East Java, in line with the ongoing export cooperation with the country.

President Director of PT INKA Budi Noviantoro remarked here on Tuesday that the 26 trains were scheduled to arrive in Chittagong Port, Bangladesh, in early August of 2019

This time, it is part of the train shipment for the “meter gauge” (MG) type, with a total order of 200 trains, while the remaining 174 are targeted for delivery before the end of 2019.

Earlier, 50 trains of the broad gauge (BG) types had been sent in January 2019.

“If we send 26 trains now, they can be targeted for Eid al-Adha 2019 by them (Bangladesh), and that is their wish,” he explained.

In the meantime, the BG and MG type trains differ in terms of the track width they operate on. The BG type train runs on tracks of 1,676-mm width, while the MG type train is operated on tracks with a width of 1,000 mm.

Each type will be assembled for several types of air conditioned (AC) and non-AC trains: WJC (AC bed trains), WJCC (AC passenger trains), WEC (non-AC passenger trains), WPC (trains generator), and WECDR (dining train).

Earlier, the order of 250 passenger trains was the result of a tender won by PT INKA in 2017, with a contract value of US$100.89 million.

In 2016, PT INKA had also exported 150 trains, with a contract value of $72.39 million, and 50 trains to Bangladesh in 2006, with a contract value of $13.8 million.
